PHOTOGRAPHY BOOKS

This is an informal "assignment", not to be taken too seriously. I just want you to look at the photos in the book you've got and see what you can say about the people/place/time pictured on the basis of the stuff the editor or photographer has collected between the covers. I don't expect you to read all the text (if there is much), but you might want to skim the introductory material to see what sort of claims the editor makes for the book. Are those claims fulfilled?

The leading question is something like: What can you (and what can't you?) learn from a certain constellation of pictures alone? If you choose to address it, a further question would be how a reading of the pictures is altered by the surrounding text. I don't expect a fancy presentation from anyone, but hope we'll get a good conversation.
