"Catastrophic Events in Earth History"

Aim: To present students with a more balanced and inclusive treatment of significant and sudden geological hazards than is available from either physical geology or environmental geology texts/courses. The course deals primarily with purely natural processes, but touches upon processes made harmful by human modifications of natural systems. Interactive geological process involving lithosphere, hydrosphere and atmosphere are emphasized.

Prerequisites: Earth Sciences 020 or equivalent, or permission of the Department.
Recommended Text: Natural Disasters, 2nd or later Edition  by Abbott
 Fall 2003 Registration: Please note that this half course is offered both in regular Lecture Format and in On-Line Format (through Distance Studies). The content will be the same in both formats.
