Employment and Journalism Experience

PRODUCER, REPORTER, HOST, OPERATOR (October 2000-Present) CHRW 94.7 FM, London, Ontario

As part of a team of graduate students, I play an integral role in the production of a bi-weekly radio news magazine show called What You Didn't Hear. In addition to my contribution of a four-minute news feature per-show, I also rotate through producer, host and operator roles when the show is produced. What You Didn't Hear is broadcast to a potential market of about 400, 000 people in the London area and countless others who tune in live on the Internet. To visit the show's companion website (which I designed and constructed), please click here.

CORRESPONDENT (1995-1997, December 2000) North Bay Nugget, North Bay, Ontario

Starting at The Nugget as a Co-Op high school student, my duties initially involved processing simple rewrites and advances on a trial basis. Working under the City Editor, I was eventually given my own feature assignments. After my tenure as a Co-Op student, and in light of my success in news writing, I have worked occasionally as a paid correspondent. My portfolio of published Nugget articles numbers over sixty, including hard and soft news, features, entertainment and sports. Click here for a few samples.

FREELANCER (November 2000) CBC Radio, Toronto Ontario

The CBC program Metro Morning purchased a 3.5 minute radio feature which I wrote, recorded and produced. The feature was an account of the roadblocks facing away-from-home students wishing to vote in Canada's 2000 federal election. It was put into syndication, making it accessible to regional CBC stations across Canada. To listen to the feature, click here.

COLUMNIST (September 1998-April 2000) Nipissing University Hibou, North Bay Ontario

I founded and developed a popular music review column entitled Stereophonic which ran in Nipissing's weekly student newspaper. In addition to writing a weekly column, I also profiled musicians and occasionally wrote more conventional general interest features. To read one of my columns, click here.

VOLUNTEER (September 1996-April 1998) Rogers Community 12, North Bay Ontario

As a volunteer, I hosted, interviewed, worked camera, produced, edited, did graphics and sound. Shoots ranged from live coverage of city hall meetings to in-studio productions, sporting events, press conferences and streeters. At Rogers I developed invaluable production skills which I continue to build upon and hone as a radio journalist.
