Assessment Tool Category: Caregiving (Disease Specific - Cancer)

Variations/Translations: N/A

Setting: Clinical

Method of Delivery: Questionnaire and interviews administered by evaluator

Description: This test was developed specifically for use in a sample of cancer patients and their informal caregivers. It measures unmet needs in cancer patients. The higher the value in caregiver burden the more likely that the patient will report unmet needs. The test has 5 specific domains which include employment, financial, physical, social, and time. There is also a global domain which is the sum of all 5 specific domain values.

Scoring/Interpretation: Scores in each domain range from 0 (no burden) to 3 (high burden). The summed values in each domain represent the global domain. The higher the global domain score the greater the caregiver burden which is also representative of a greater degree of unmet needs reported by the cancer patient.
