Final Exam

April 2008: our exam is scheduled for Thursday, April 14th, 9:00 AM, in UCC 53 (be there or be square)
The final exam will contain about eight questions. Students will choose about four questions to answer. The questions are designed to be answered in about two or three pages, which might include some sketches or tables of information.

Examples of questions might be:

1. What geological processes are active today in shaping the surface of Mars? How would they differ from (a) those active in the distant past on Mars, and (b) those active today on Venus?

2. In what ways does Mercury differ from the Moon in its geological processes and history?

3. How do rotational lightcurves reveal (a) the shape, (b) the rotation period and (c) the albedo variations on an unresolved asteroid? Use sketches if they help illustrate your answer.

4. Arrange the four large satellites of Jupiter in a sequence of geological activity from most to least active, giving a brief description of each satellite's geology and explaining the observed variation.

More examples of questions can be found in this old exam from a previous term.
