Course Description

This course is an introduction to the concepts and theories important to understanding International Relations (IR). It analyses the main theoretical approaches to the study of IR; the works of well-known IR theorists; and it introduces approaches important to developing a critical understanding of international affairs. You will also learn about various international organizations, such as the United Nations and NATO. We overview the instruments and processes of foreign policy-making, with a focus on Canada's foreign policy options within the international system. Finally, we explore many current international problems and important issues relevant to the study of IR.
