Rights and the Canadian Constitution



This course examines rights in Canada. Focussing on the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms the course explores fundamental freedoms such as freedom of religion, freedom of expression, integrity of the person and fundamental justice, equality rights, democratic rights, and cultural and aboriginal rights. The course will also consider the relationship between rights and power, constitutional law and politics, the meaning of the rule of law and the role of judicial interpretation in the context of law and politics.
