Getting the Agresti data fileThe data file "Agresti.dat" is distributed by the author of the text to be used in conjunction with several of the problems listed at the end of each chapter. The file includes various small data sets and their descriptions. The file is available on the Soc. 300 homepage. Click here or on the above icon to get the data set. The file will appear on your screen as a text file. It can be saved by clicking on "File," and then selecting "Save As." Once you give the file a name, make sure you select *.txt in the "Save as type" box. In order to use the data, you must first edit the file, cut the appropriate section and save it as a separate text or "ASCII" file. The easiest way to do this is to use the Notepad editor that comes with windows. You can use Notepad to create or edit text files that do not require formatting and are smaller than 64K. Notepad opens and saves text in ASCII (text-only) format only. To create or edit files that are larger than 64K, use WordPad. Most wordprocessors such as WordPerfect and MS Word also allow you to save files in text (.txt) format by using the "Save as" option under "File." For other sources of data (for this or other courses) check the data listing under Neat Pages. |
