The specimen consisted of chronic inflammatory cells, cellular debris, and filamentous bacteria. Numerous red blood cells and focal collections of plasma cells were also present. No evidence of keratin was seen.

The fibrinopurulent exudate with bacterial colonies was consistent with an abscess.
