One of the clues to the fact that earth & its life has a long history is that life forms are not distributed with any uniformity about the globe or through time.
Here we begin our look at patterns in time and space, beginning with the numerical aspect (following on from last class’ consideration of the numerical distribution of organisms among groups) - where are most organisms to be found, regardless of what sort they may be?
In later classes we shall look at patterns in time and in space in evolutionary lineages, and in adaptive forms.
We understand some of the explanation of these patterns, but much is left to become clear.
