How to succeed in organic Chemistry

  • Organic Chemistry 2273a is cumulative  - the understanding of later topics relies on knowing earlier topics well and recollection of Chem 1050 material. Therefore, consistent and early study is essential. New concepts build on the knowledge learned previously.  This is especially true if you plan on continuing in Chemistry 2283g.

  • Attend the optional tutorials or see your course tutor or instructor early.  Do not wait to get problems fixed.

  • Assemble a good set of lecture notes. This is most easily accomplished BY ATTENDING ALL LECTURES. STUDY and UNDERSTAND your lecture notes.  You are responsible for constructing your own course notes - the material from lectures is presented predominantly on the boards so that you get practice drawing organic structures.

  • Do and understand  problems in the text  until you can explain the method and concepts to others.

  • Attend, and prepare for, the labs. Your lab mark should be over 80%.

  • RELAX and HAVE FUN!  Organic chemistry is no more difficult than any other subject -  people just tell you it is.!!
