          "Trips and exchange programmes became very popular in the 1970's. During this era, the emphasis was on speaking and listening comprehension skills. Students were to communicate in French and they were encouraged to use French outside of the classroom. The interest in and demand for trips and exchanges to both Quebec and France increased dramatically."
