Course Overview - Outcomes

Course Overview

This course has been designed to address leadership in the education of exceptional students both at the school level and the school board level.

The learning outcomes which follow have been identified for each of the following leadership areas.

Analytical Skills

Effective, systematic, intuitive and creative thinkers and problem solvers should have a repertoire of dispositions, types of thinking and strategies for thinking.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Draw conclusions about significant controversial issues that reflect a careful analysis of the various arguments, perspectives and values inherent in each issue.

2. Carry out self-directed, multi-phase projects within a given time frame.

3. Use creative thinking skills to design a viable product.

 

Communication Skills

Effective communicators possess excellent reading, writing, speaking, listening and other related skills and they apply those skills to a variety of contexts, formats and purposes.

Learning Outcomes

1. Write documents and presentations that present clear and concise summaries of information related to a given topic.

2. Choose and integrate research and acknowledge sources according to the rules of correct documentation.

3. Write and present persuasively in order to promote ideas, to support and to defend positions.

 

Educational Practices

Educational practices involve human action, numeracy, patterns and shapes used to describe the real world, and competencies with technology. They are important in order to absorb new ideas, adapt to change, cope with ambiguity, perceive patterns and to solve unconventional problems.

Learning Outcomes

1. Organize and classify data.

2. Produce professional looking documents.

3. Enhance presentations by using technology to prepare visual aids, which integrate text, tables, graphs, pictures, video etc.

 

Interpersonal Skills

Interpersonal skills involve the ability to interact effectively with others and to participate as an integral part of a group.

Learning Outcomes

1. Contribute to establishing and maintaining supportive environments.

2. Display a realistic knowledge and development of self by examining personal behaviors
