OBITUARY
David S. Sadler
The death of David S. Sadler,
well-known Chatham businessman, occurred at Hotel Dieu, Chatham,
on Jan. 17. He was 86.
Mr. Sadler was born in Chatham,
son of the late David and Elspeth (Johnstone) Sadler. He had conducted
a dry goods business on Water Street in Chatham for more than 60
years. In his earlier life he was an alderman on the Chatham Town
Council and chairman of the Chatham School Board. A faithful member
of St. Andrews United Church, Mr. Sadler was also clerk of
the session of the church, head of the trustee board and for many
years superintendent of the Sunday school. He was also treasurer
of the Highland Society for a number of years.
Mr. Sadlers first wife,
the former Margaret Dickie of River Charlo, died some years ago.
He is survived by his second wife, the former Emily Dickison, Chatham;
two daughters (Lillian) Mrs. Carl C. Covey, Fredericton and (Margaret)
Mrs. F.C. McLellan, Pelham Manor, N.Y.; two sons, James, Halifax,
and Robert, Antigua, W.I..
A son John was killed in the Second
World War.
The remains rested at the time
on Upper Water Street until 11 a.m. on Saturday when they were taken
to St. Andrews United Church where the funeral service was
held at 2:30 p.m. Rev. E.A.C. Haley conducted the service.
The remains were placed in a receiving
vault at Riverside cemetery for burial in the spring.
