  OBITUARY

Death of David Sadler, Esq.

The very many friends of the Sadler family in this as well as the neighboring counties will regret to learn of the death of the head of the family, DAVID SADLER, which occurred at his residence, Dalhousie, on Sunday last. The deceased gentleman was well known throughout the Province, and was highly esteemed. Possessing a cheerful disposition, kind to all, and thoroughly scrupulous in all his dealings. at an early stage he gained the friendship of many, and enjoyed the confidence of all who knew him, which was steadily retained during a long and prosperous career. Of him it could truly be said -- "His word was as good as his bond."

The deceased was born at Kirkpatrick Juxta, Dumfriesshire, Scotland, on the 9th July 1804. He emigrated to Miramichi in the year 1824, and resided here until 1849, when he was appointed Deputy Land Surveyor for the County of Restigouche, and removed to Dalhousie, where he resided up to the time of his death.

He was married to Jane, daughter of Wm. Barclay, of Miramichi, in January 1826. There were ten children by this union, five of whom are living.
