An OPR birth record has not been found for Nicol Porteous. However, the Censuses of Scotland, 1851, 1861 and 1871, all say he was born in West Linton, Peeblesshire, Scotland. In addition, his death record indicates he died in 1875 at age 61 which would make his birth year 1814.
