A common beginner’s problem with the LH. Notice how the first knuckle of the index finger breaks in, touching the neck, forcing the wrist to bend in much more than naturally it wants to. These two factors interfere with transfer of strength from the muscles of the forearm to the fingers, and a need for strength (often because of fatigue) is usually what produces this deformed picture, especially in the lower positions. It’s virtually impossible to get enough spacing for the "frets" of  I and ½ positions.

So if you begin setting up LH position with the higher positions, be alert to this problem emerging as you move towards the nut, and as you ask for more endurance. Although not seen here, often the L thumb points up, too

The hand needs to be rounded, "C"-shaped, as if grasping a cylinder. Make sure that the L arm also is similarly rounded; if the L elbow is at an acute angle, the source of the problem will likely be in basic stance.
