Examinations

The requirements for this course include two examinations.

The first (actually a mid-year test) will cover material from the Fall term only, and will occur during the regular December examination period.  It is worth 15% of the final grade for the course.  This exam will be held Saturday, December 10 from 2-5 p.m in the Thames Hall gym.  Here is a sample exam to give a you a sense of what to expect.  (Here are some sample answers to this sample exam.  I didn't write these, and I'm not keen on all of these, but they give you some idea of what's expected.)  The real exam is a little bit (but only a little bit) harder than this sample, but this nonetheless gives you a good sense of the structure and difficulty of the exam.  There will be an optional review session to prepare for this exam on Thursday, December 8 at 10:30, in our usual room -- TC202.

The second exam (this one really is an exam) will cover material from the entire year (that is -- from both terms), and will occur during the regular spring examination period.  It is worth 35% of the final grade.  Here is a sample final exam.  The real final will follow this structure.  Note that each section of Philosophy 020E has a different question in the final section.  When you're sitting the exam, make sure that you answer the right essay question for our section.  Note also that this question will be taken from the final unit of the course, in our case the "What is the character of contemporary philosophy?" unit.  There will be no choices on this final essay question.  I will hold a review session to prepare for this exam on Thursday 13 April from 10:30 to 12:30, location TBA.

Mid-year exam.  (This might be a helpful study aid for the final.)
