To start one of them, click on the appropriate icon.
What are Bulletin Board and Chat?
Bulletin Board
- Use this if you want to read or post messages that can be accessed
by everyone in the Pilot group, your TA and your course instructor.
- For example, you may want to start or participate in a discussion
about a topic in the course, or perhaps you have some questions or
problems that others in the class may be able to help with.
- These messages are always available when you connect to WebCT.
Chat
- Use this if you want to talk to someone in REAL time (i.e. like talking to a
person online, rather than reading a message that was posted at an
earlier time).
- Typically, the TA or Instructor (or a person in your class) will
announce a time they will be in a chat room, and anyone who wants, can
talk to them at that time.
- Some rooms will have the conversations recorded so that the instructor
can review it later.
How do I use Bulletin Board and Chat?
Bulletin Board:
A Bulletin Board tutorial is available from
http://www.webct.com/webct/tutorial/online1.3/BulletinBoard/bulletin.htm if
you would like more details.
NOTE: The Bulletin Board is separate from your regular e-mail and is internal to
WebCT. In order to read or post messages to these discussion groups, you need to
do it from within WebCT.
Chat
- To return to the main page, click the Home button.
- Click on the room you want to visit (e.g. where someone is available
to talk)
- On the right (under Users Logged On), you will see all the people
who are in the Chat room chat can talk right now.
- To start talking, click in the Enter your message below box and type
in the message followed by enter. It will appear in the window above.
- Other people's responses will appear in that window as well.
- When you don't want to talk anymore, click on the Quit bar at the
bottom.
