Children with Severe & Multiple Disabilities
have independent & interdependent deficits in two or more areas of functioning
- e.g. sensory disorders [deaf + blind]
- e.g. sensory disorders + physical or mental or neurological disorders or any other combination
extremely diverse population
- differences are greater than similarities
- no typical portrait - each child must be considered individually
severe and debilitating multiple impairments
- conditions are cumulative not additive
