This course provides an introductory description and explanation of the major patterns shown by life on earth.  Thus this course deals with:

• what sorts of organisms there are and what they do,
• how they are related & how we classify them,
• how many of them there are & where most of them live,
• how their diversity has changed through time,
• where they live, and how they got there,
• and how they have adapted to the conditions they encounter.
