Laboratory


Laboratory:  Chemistry Building 074 (lower ground floor)

 

This laboratory space is shared with other courses, so it is essential that you finish your labs in the allotted time and leave the lab clean!

 

Schedule:  Lab #1 begins the week of September 27th!  (Yes, there is a lab on Tuesday, September 28th for those of you registered in sections 005 and 002!)


Labs take place on these days: note the days and section numbers

Tuesdays:      9:30am-12:30 pm (section 005)

Tuesdays:      2:30-5:30 pm (section 002)

Thursdays:    9:30am-12:30 pm (section 003)


What do I need to start my lab? ......good question - here's the answer!

 

1) You must come prepared to the lab, having read the lab procedure and completed any prelab exercises.  You can retrieve (download) the lab from the link below.

 

2) You must have a laboratory coat, safety glasses and appropriate dress (for instance, long pants and closed-toe shoes).  A hard-cover laboratory notebook, which may also be used for C2271, is also required.

 

3) Attend your registered lab section at the correct time and week.

 

4) For the first lab,  you must sign and hand in the safety waiver form that was distributed in the lecture.

TLC and Chromatography

Starts the week of September 27 and continues the week of Oct. 4.

Part A: due: at the beginning of your next lab during the week of Oct. 4.

Part B:  due: Fri. Oct. 15, in lecture

Laboratory #2

Extraction and Recrystallization

Starts the week of October 25 and continues the week of Nov. 1.

 

Lab Report due Fri. Nov. 12, in lecture

Laboratory #3

Unknown Determination

Starts the week of November 22 and continues the week of Nov. 29.

Bring a data key to store your IR data

Due in class on Wed. Dec. 8 (or before)
