Memories of the Language Labs

"The very first labs came on to the scene in 1962 - 1963, although they were old-fashioned reel to reel."
 - Mr. J.A. Boyd

"Eventually they ended up with a language lab in every classroom in the province. That was the pride and joy of the Inspectors."
 - Mr. T. J. Casaubon

"It was a prestige thing, and it was almost considered a necessity to have one in every classroom."
 - Mr. J.A. Boyd

"But the problem was they put the language labs in, and Sir Frederick Banting Secondary School was an example, we had a beautiful language lab, but then there was no funding to maintain them. There were no technicians and so when anything went wrong with them it was awful. Consequently the language labs went by the wayside because of this lack of funding, and also because the students found them extremely boring. There was no interaction."
 - Mr. Michael Milhausen
