Michael Silver was a full time Dispute Resolution Officer with the A.D.R. Centre of the Ontario Court of Justice (General Division) since the Centre's inception in 1994. As such, he has mediated over 1000 times. These cases have included breach of contract, insurance claims, professional negligences, personal injury, intentional and other torts, estates, libel and slander, medical malpractice, shareholder disputes, environmental, wrongful dismissal and administrative.
From 1988-1994, Mr. Silver practised commercial, administrative, medical malpractice, and environmental litigation with the law firm of Torkin, Manes. He obtained his L.L.B. from Western's law school in 1984, where he was President in his final year, and his L.L.M. from Trinity Hall at Cambridge University in England in 1988, where he won the Ver Heyden de Lancey Prize for the best paper on a medical-legal topic.
Mr. Silver is now a mediator in private practice in Toronto handling all types of litigious and other disputes. He is the co-author of two legal texts -- "Solicitor-Client Privilege in Canadian Law" (Butterworths, 1993) and "The Law of Confidentiality in Canada" (Butterworths, 1996).
Janine Higgins, B.A., LL.B., CRC, is a mediator and trainer in private practice. She practised law from 1980 to 1993. Since 1993, her practice has been restricted to alternative dispute resolution, including family mediation, and mediation of estate shareholder, family business, workplace, personal injury, and other insurance conflicts. Her ADR training includes Conflict Resolution Certification from the Justice Institute of B.C. and specialized training in family mediation, commercial mediation and arbitration.
