Assignment 1: Discuss
meta-cognition using Michenbaum's conceptualization of inner language (text p. 306, 321)
and review his instructional steps as a useful teaching tool in today's classroom. Several
instructional techniques were developed based on this perspective. Discuss the SQ3R
strategy in reading or a strategy more familiar to you. You might discuss other learning
strategies as well, include how it is used effectively, could be used more effectively,
etc. Post in Caucus, Assignment #1.
Assignment 2: Discuss\summarize\present each of the
historical phases in the field of LD. What were the reasons for each and how did
each phase impact on the education of students with LD? Post in Caucus, Assignment #2.
Assignment 3: Compare the components of the two
definitions of learning disabilities (1984- current definition and the latest draft
definition). Note and discuss each of the following components in relation to the current
definition and the latest draft: psychological-process component , the exclusionary
criterion, the discrepancy criterion. Post in Caucus, Assignment #3.
Assignment 4: Discuss the medical model vs the educational
model. Look at Interest Box.2.1, and contrast the various aspects of the medical and
educational models on each issue. Identify other ways in which these two views might not
agree. Post in Caucus, Assignment #4.
Assignment 5: See names of member in your group in Caucus.
Assign sections of Chapter 3 to group members. Decide how your group will present an
overview of the information in teacher friendly and practical application to teacher
practice. Members must forward leaders of groups clear, concise overview of assigned
section. A team leader will organize and present the groups work on-line. Post in
Caucus, Assignment #5.
Assignment 6: Same task as assignment 5 but your group
studies and presents the main points of chapter 4 in relation to our jobs as teachers.
Presentations should help us examine our practices and use the information for
