Module 2 Introduction
Module 2 Introduction Module 2 supports section two of the Bender text and focuses on the typical characteristics of students with LD in the contexts of reading, language and mathematics. Module 2 emphasizes the relationship between the characteristics typically associated with LD and how these characteristics affect particular students in elementary and secondary classrooms. We examine social and emotional characteristics of students with LD in learning environments as well. Like Module 1, the LD course conference site in Caucus will continue to be the place to meet to "think" in print, "listen to the thoughts of others", "respond to their thinking and learning", and practice what we know about "how learning occurs". Caucus conference site ITEMS related to Module 2 include: Assignments & Postings Information (where description, criteria and marking schema are located for module 2 assignment-pt 1 & pt 2; dates and presenters) The "Mini-Presentation" Theatre (where
online versions -part 1- assignments are posted, see details in Caucus site) Strand E Looks at written communication through two lenses: handwriting and written expression. Technology is mentioned briefly as it will be explored more in-depth in module 3. Strand F Explores the area of mathematics, an area that is fast becoming a topic of many discussions. We look at cognitive abilities, the types of LD in math, why math disabilities continue to go unidentified, and practical strategies that can help all students, especially those with LD. Strand G Examines the
typical behaviors and interactions of students with LD. It takes a closer look at what we
might try to "fix" in the students learning environment as opposed to
focusing solely on trying to "fix" of the student with LD.
