About the site
The purpose of this site is twofold. The first is just what you think -- to help you learn basic web design! The second is to demonstrate some of the basic principles we'll be talking about in the course, and to use as an example for when you're building your own final projects and comparing it to the marking criteria for that project.
How it's built
I built this by hand in Brackets, and then used Dreamweaver to generate the site using the site definition and template tools. I'll show them to you in class. For a basis, I used the Skeleton framework, so I could make the site responsive. (Note that I don't expect you to go to such lengths for your projects, but feel free to if you want.) It's built using HTML5 and CSS3, the standard we'll be learning in class.
Font fun
The typesetting is done in Source Sans Pro and Cabin Sketch, both available on Google Fonts. Source Sans Pro is an easy-to-read san serif typeface, and Cabin Sketch is a humanist sans that I hope evokes the fun brainstorming part of creating new things.
Check out Google Fonts here. We'll be learning all about web typesetting during the course.
