Patient Presentation
- A 72 year old woman has been referred to your care from emergency.
- The
emergency record depicts that she has collapsed due to the
loss of consciousness.
- There is evidence of facial trauma.
- Her EKG
results appear normal.
The following questions are asked to ascertain additional patient
history:
- Sudden loss of consciousness.
- She fell, hitting her chin on a
park bench.
- No lightheadedness or aura present prior to the loss
of consciousness.
- Aura would suggest seizure, and feeling lightheaded,
diaphoretic, nauseated would point towards vasodepressor
(vasovagal) mechanism.
