Video Tutorials
We should be able to cover all the material you'll need to learn in class, and be successful, but I encourage you to find other ways to keep growing and strengthening your skills. Video tutorials are a great way to do that.LinkedIn Learning
Western University students, staff and faculty all have access to this wonderful resource until Sept. 21, 2020. I'd encourage you to get all you can out of it while you have free access. This is especially rich with high-quality tutorials on web design and visual design skills. Here's a few titles I can recommend:
HTML Essential Training with James Williamson: This covers much of the first couple weeks of our course.
CSS Essential Training I with Christina Truong: She actually teaches a number of CSS training courses, and I'd recommend them all if you want to get up to speed and even exceed what we'll do in class. I would suggest you wait until I cover some of the initial concepts in class in week two before you start these, so they are easier to get into.
Photoshop (CC 2018) Essential Training -- Basics with Julieanne Kost: I've only surveyed this one, but it looks like she covers everything you're going to need for this course, except for compression.
Creating Optimized Web Graphics with Brian Wood: He does a nice job covering the basics of graphic types and then how to save them with the proper compression format.
Take it farther
You can take it to the next level by following a Learning Path, which are a collection of courses.
Other sources
You can do a Google search to find a tutorial for just about anything. There are a few websites that provide them for free too:
Skillshare: Lots to choose from here, including lessons and tutorials on Photoshop and web development.
Guru 99: (they have a basic Photoshop tutorial set here) and lots of other things to explore.
Udemy: You have to pay for these, but again, there's lots of choice.
