Module 2 Strand E2 There are fixed parts in the school - halls, rooms, windows and doors to mention a few. How we use that space though is within our own creative imagination and availability of resources. For example, how we arrange desks, how we create instructional centres, and how we look after transitions. These are all moveable and within our control. Exercise 9a - 'Bird's Eye View" Take a walk through your school and give it a rating for how it fares in accommodating the physical needs of exceptional students. Observe both barriers and indicators of equity. Identify specific needs and make recommendations for improvement. Then go to 5 students in the school and ask them for their opinion of the physical arrangement of the school. If you have a physically challenged student in your school consider asking the student for his/her view. OR Exercise 9b - 'Bird's Eye View' Take a look at your classroom. Include all critical
elements as you look around it. How is your classroom enabling all students to
participate? What would you consider changing to provide further opportunities? You might want to check out this article first. It may help you formulate questions to ask the students.... Students: How They View Learning And Their Schools Whichever exercise you choose, after completion report your findings in a creative way. What have you learned that you didn't know before you did this exercise? What changes are you now going to make? Exercise 10 - Resources for Physical Changes Compose a letter to your board outlining the changes needed in your class or your school. Provide the rational as well as estimated costs and timeline for these changes. How persuasive and convincing can you be? Present in an organized and concise manner.
